Outdoor Redwood Bench

Aging Gracefully
When I first started looking at making my own outdoor furniture, longevity was one of my largest considerations. Fighting the elements to keep a piece of furniture pristine is a pretty futile battle, even in places with good weather. Redwood While soft has good resistance to decay and holds up well over time.

Aesthetics were also a concern with long term weathering. I wanted to steer into the idea of patina. The wide array of hues in redwood naturally bring lots of personality. As the wood ages it grays in different light and dark values depending on sun exposure and the original hue of the grain.
Bringing outside In
While designed and intended for outdoor use, the bench still works indoor for bedside seating or a place to throw all your clothes.
Process
While machinery is amazing and a total time saver it's not something that's always at my disposal. I wanted to to prove to myself that I could make my own furniture with the tools at my disposal. I used the side of my deck as my work station hand cutting and finishing all the pieces from 1/3/8" x 1/3/8" x 8' s4s redwood.
